Lego League

What is Lego League?
Lego league is more than just playing with Legos.  There are four competitions that these teams compete in.
  1. Core Values-where the student complete tasks and are judged on how they work together as a team
  2. Robot design where their Lego Mindstorm robot is judged on design and attachments
  3. Robot competition where the team's code or program a lego robot to complete certain tasks such as pick up and move things around the table to earn points.
  4. Project-The teams must create a project that ties into the theme.  This years theme is Animal Allies so the teams worked to find creative solutions to help animals.  The Black Squirrel team designed and built squirrel shacks to put up around Kingsley.  The Busy Beez have put together seed packets and informational brochures that will be distributed at nature centers to help bees continue to pollinate and stay in their hives.

Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. This year's topic is Animal Allies.  They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.
It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their discovery journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s signature Core Values.
